공간 설명

‘데스툴’은 독일어로 의자를 뜻한다. 연희동에 둥지를 튼 이 카페에는 어디서든 볼 수 있지만 앉을 때마다 새로운 경험을 안겨주는 의자처럼 친숙한 공간 안에서 새로운 시선을 얻길 바라는 마음이 담겨 있다. 반려동물 브랜드를 운영하는 독일 태생의 아트 디렉터 서덕재가 바리스타 박민규와 협업한 이 공간의 핵심은 의자, 정확히 말하면 가구다. 기능주의에 입각한 붙박이 의자와 소파, 바 스툴 등이 데스툴의 정체성을 공고히 한다. 크고 작은 소품과 디자인 서적 역시 영감을 불어넣는 장치. 인테리어는 독일 뒤셀도르프의 예술 학교인 쿤스트 아카데미를 모티브로 했다. 데스툴은 카페 운영 외에도 꾸준히 팝업 스토어와 전시를 열며 서울의 창작자들을 위한 도화지 역할을 하고 있다.

Overview

“Der Stuhl” means “chair” in German. This café, nestled in Yeonhui-dong, embodies the hope that, like a familiar chair offering a fresh experience with each use, visitors will gain new perspectives within a familiar space. Co-founded by German-born art director Seo Deok-jae, who also runs a pet brand, in collaboration with barista Park Min-kyu, Der Stuhl centers around furniture, particularly chair. Functionalist built-in chairs, sofas, and bar stools reinforce the café’s unique identity.

Small decorative items and design books add layers of inspiration to the space. The interior draws inspiration from the Kunstakademie (Art Academy) in Düsseldorf, Germany. In addition to operating as a café, Der Stuhl regularly hosts pop-up stores and exhibitions, creating a creative hub for Seoul’s artistic community.
